Hartwall Capital has its roots in Oy Hartwall Ab, a beverage company established in 1836 when Victor Hartwall set up the first Nordic mineral water plant in Helsinki.

The owner families (Hartwall, Tallqvist, Therman) reinvest the funds received from the sale of S&N to Hartwall Capital. The operations of Hartwall Capital in its current form begin.

Heineken and Carlsberg acquire 100% of S&N. S&N is divided so that Hartwall Oy becomes a part of Heineken and BBH becomes a part of Carlsberg.

Hartwall Bolagen, the holding company of the family, changes its name to Hartwall Capital. Ownership of S&N is centralized to Hartwall Capital.

Hartwall merges with Scottish & Newcastle and Hartwall Bolagen becomes the largest single owner in S&N.

Baltic Beverage Holding (BBH) is created as a joint venture with Pripps. The goal is to expand into Russia and the former Soviet Union by acquiring majority stakes in local breweries.

Sale of beer is allowed in grocery stores. During the years from 1965 to 1988 Hartwall expands rapidly into the beer market through a number of acquisitions.

The national soft drink icon Hartwall Jaffa is launched.
